After Pierluigi Collina (1998 to 2003), Roberto Rosetti (2008) and Nicola Rizzoli (2014 and 2015), Daniele Orsato became the fourth Italian referee to win the Award of the World’s Best Referee of the year in 2020. His regularity in Serie A games (232 matches) and in Europe (60 UEFA competition club games) led Orsato to be chosen to referee the UEFA Champions League final in Lisbon between FC Bayern and Paris SG. He won the World Ranking sovereignly before Felix Brych, Germany’s IFFHS Award Winner of 2017, and Netherland’s Björn Kuipers, ranked in the Top 5 for many years. Last year’s winner Damir Skomina took 4th place. (Source: IFFHS)
