Further to our recent correspondence, I must inform you that UEFA has been informed with deep sadness and deep concern of another incident concerning the offensive and violent behaviour towards the football referees who were appointed to officiate recent matches in the Greek League.
Despite our joint efforts and in light of recent events, UEFA has reconsidered its support for sending Elite and Category 1 referees to officiate the Greek Superleague 1 playoffs and has decided to discontinue this practice for the time being.
These incidents are beyond football, and we are sincerely grateful for your concern on this matter and all the unremitting efforts of the Greek Football Federation and the Greek Government to prevent such things. However, at this time, we must prioritise the safety of our match officials, who must be kept away from such hostile and dangerous situations.
