ANFP to pay compensation to Castrilli after his dismissal

“I want justice. I trust it. There are fundamental rights enshrined in the national constitution that were violated”, Javier Castrilli accused in an interview with El Deportivo on 21 May 2022. The passage of the Argentine through national refereeing will be remembered forever in Chile. Not only because of decisions that caused controversy, such as the dismissal of referees that ended in a mobilization, but also because of the his lawsuit against the ANFP following his dismissal. And, as if that was not enough, today it was confirmed that ANFP lost the trial started by Castrilli due a violation of his constitutional rights on his dismissal: they must pay him the amount of $147,802,885 pesos.
The total amount is broken down into $122,136,685 pesos for missed compensation, corresponding to 11 salaries, plus $25,000,000 pesos for moral damage and $666,200 pesos in benefits not paid. It should be noted that on 6 April 2022, the Argentine was dismissed from his duties as Head of the Referees, because he did not accept being suspended while an investigation was carried out into the complaint by Francisco Gilabert, the referee who had accused him of pressure during the match between Copiapo and Huachipato, for the 2021 season promotion. However, an internal investigation not only ruled out the facts, but also returned the job to a series of referees who had been fired by Castrilli. “They sought to stain the Castrilli name with lies and slander, with a campaign to destabilize me. This association of referees, who have been entrenched in the power of Chilean arbitration, from the beginning of my administration, in a systematic way, and resorting to journalists who listened to them, filled me with lies and slander with the sole purpose of destabilizing me." said Castrilli in the interview last year, after his departure from office. Two months after his dismissal, Javier Castrilli and his lawyers sued the ANFP for unfair dismissal and personal damage. Judge Mauricio Guajardo proposed a conciliation that would have forced the ANFP to pay $47,350,136 pesos, which corresponded to the payment of four salaries for the former referee boss. However, at that time, both parties rejected mediation.
