Russian referees will not be assigned any UEFA matches

Russian referees are affected by the current situation of their country. Both because of the decisions made yesterday by FIFA and UEFA and also because of the closure of the airspace that affects Russia. The first consequence is that they will not be able to referee in the European club competitions. Neither in the Champions League, nor in the Europa League or the Conference League.
Sergei Karasev (photo), who attended last January the course organized by FIFA for European pre-selected referees, sees his chances to attend the World Cup seriously threatened. Sergei Ivanov, from the First Category of UEFA referees, who is also a VAR in European competitions, as well as seven others who are in the Second Category, usually appointed to the Europa League and the Conference League matches, will not be able to officiate in any UEFA competitions for the time being.
