On 25 February 2021, the Uruguayan Referees Committee opened a disciplinary file against Claudia Umpierrez for an alleged violation of internal regulations when she made a public statement in response to a question asked on the Polideportivo TV program (Channel 12). Umpierrez, who is a lawyer by profession, won the appeal against the AUF. The Appeals Committee unanimously decided that is was a "lack of cause for the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the referee Dr. Claudia Umpierrez and these proceedings are now closed”.
The initial suspension caused serious damages to Umpierrez, who was prevented from participating in the Copa Libertadores and the Olympic Games. She completed her 4 matches suspension in Uruguay, but, considering the damages that sanction led to, Umpierrez said: "I will continue to fight until the end. There are damages that are not repaired. There is pain, suffering and missed opportunities that have no reparation."
