The referees in the First and Second Division have an employment contract and are now included into the general Social Security regime from which they were previously excluded, after signing a professional athlete employment contract with the RFEF. "A historical day for the refereeing establishment that now becomes reality after years of waiting to change the status of the Spanish referees, going from a legal-administrative relationship to a contractual relationship with the RFEF. This initiative of the places Spain at the forefront of the European and world refereeing", said a RFEF statement.
