Video assistant referees in the Premier League next season will not rule on the goalkeeper’s position at penalties with those decisions being left to the judgment of on-field officials, it can be revealed.
VARs will be used in England’s top flight for the first time from August but referees chiefs have decided they will not be involved in decisions on the goalkeeper’s position at penalty kicks. A new law requiring goalkeepers to have at least one foot on the line came into force before the women’s World Cup and has already proved hugely controversial.
