Shortly before the start of the Santiago 2023 Pan-American Games, CONMEBOL announced the replacement of 10 Bolivian and 1 Peruvian referee originally appointed for the tournament. The replacements are from Uruguay, Peru and Paraguay. The 19th edition of the South American multi-sport event is showcasing more than 7,000 athletes from the 41 countries of the Olympic Movement of the Americas in the 39 sports disciplines.
An official statement from the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced the replacement of 11 referees appointed for the Pan-American Games. There are 5 men and 5 women of Bolivian nationality among the referees and assistants replaced: Christian Aleman, Gaad Flores, Jesus Antelo, Wilian Medina, Ruben Flores, Jhanet Portugal, Alejandra Quisbert, Elizabeth Blanco, Noemi Flores and Maricielo Urapuca. In addition, there is a Peruvian referee, Augusto Menendez. They were replaced by referees of Uruguayan, Peruvian and Paraguayan nationality. The CONMEBOL statement does not specify the reason for their replacement.
