The FIFA certification required for Concacaf to implement Video assistant referees (VAR) has been processed faster than anticipated. For this reason, Concacaf can now confirm that the technology will be used for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League (SCCL) Quarter-final stage and for the remainder of the competition. Tonight’s Quarter-final first leg match between Atlanta United FC and Philadelphia Union will be the first match in an official Concacaf competition to include VAR. It will subsequently be used for all Quarter-final, Semi-final and Final matches throughout the 2021 SCCL. As previously announced, Concacaf will also use VAR in the Concacaf Nations League Finals and the 2021 Gold Cup. (Source: Concacaf)
