A bizarre situation unfolded during the men's Olympic football semi-final clash between Spain and Morocco on Monday. With the game goalless after 15 minutes at the Stade Velodrome, a coming together between Moroccan forward Abde Ezzalzouli and Marc Pubill saw the Spaniard career towards referee Ilgiz Tantashev. The subsequent collision knocked the Uzbekistani official off his feet and the game was paused as he received treatment on the pitch.
Tantashev ultimately couldn't continue and hobbled off the pitch, prompting a rare referee substitution to get the action back underway. After Tantashev made his way to the touchline the delay to the restart continued as fourth official Glenn Nyberg readied himself to take over officiating duties.
