Martin Saccone is a referee who, from 2019 until today, has been appointed to only four Federal A matches. Now, after filing an injunction with the Labour Court, which ruled in his favour, he will have at least 3 First Division matches per month. Otherwise, AFA will have to pay a fine of 200,000 pesos for each match that he does not referee.
The referee from Mar del Plata is not the only one going through this situation. Leandro Nunez and Federico Cuello also filed complaints, since at the time they were fired and then reinstated after 24 hours, due to union immunity. In addition, when the referee appointments of the second category of Argentine football will be announced, Saccone will have to be appointed as assistant 1 in order to comply with the ruling of Justice. Judge Mirta Gonzalez Burbridge, who is in charge of the case, declared that “the AFA has not fully complied with the court order, so considering the time that has elapsed, it is appropriate to increase the amount of the fine set in the records and set the sum of $200,000 for each matchday of the First Division in which he was not assigned, starting 5 business days after the notification of this resolution”.
