The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) continue their exchange of experiences for male and female referees, in accordance with the agreement signed between both confederations. Four South American representatives were invited from May 10 to 17, at the UEFA Center for Excellence in Refereeing, in Nyon (Switzerland), to participate in the CORE 54 Course, which consists of two parts (Introduction and Consolidation): referee Alberto Feres (URU), assistant referees Hector Bergalo (URU), Mathias Muniz (URU) and technical instructor Ana Perez (PER).
This CORE program, which has been carried out since 2010, aims to develop the skills and aptitude of potential international referees of the future, in accordance with UEFA's young talent program. The strengthening of collaboration in refereeing matters is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by CONMEBOL and UEFA in February 2020. In this document, joint work is also proposed in other key areas, such as the development of women's football and the youth and training categories, as well as safety and the promotion of ethical principles and good governance in football.
