Mark Clattenburg will surely now complete a unique treble and referee Sunday’s European Championship final, despite the FA not being his biggest fan, wrote former World Cup referee Graham Poll for the Daily Mail.
Clattenburg is only at these finals due to the support of UEFA refereeing supremo Pierluigi Collina who rates him as the best in Europe. The FA are not big fans of him and insisted that Martin Atkinson went as England’s referee. However, Collina picked Clattenburg and that faith has been repaid with three excellent performances which must now result in the ultimate European appointment. Clattenburg was also appointed to the FA Cup final and Champions League final earlier this summer but the game on Sunday will surpass both of those occasions.
