Jacewicz - first ever female referee in A-League

Football Federation Australia (FFA) released the names of the Match Officials that will control matches during the upcoming Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League seasons. Kate Jacewicz has created history as the first female referee appointed to the Hyundai A-League Referees Panel. Ben Abraham will also join Kate on the Hyundai A-League referees panel for the first time. Alex King, who has been a Hyundai A-League Referee since 2017, has also been promoted to the position of a full-time referee joining Chris Beath and Shaun Evans.
FFA Chairman and Chair of the FFA Referees Committee, Chris Nikou, was proud to announce that Kate and Ben had been appointed to the Hyundai A-League referee panel along with all the other match officials. “Kate is without doubt one of the leading referees in the world at any level and we congratulate her on the appointment to the Hyundai A-League referees panel. Kate is one of the most successful referees in Australian Football who has been named the Westfield W-League Referee of the Year a record breaking eight times and most recently refereed two matches at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as well as being appointed as the fourth official for the third place play-off match between England and Sweden. Ben is a referee that has come through the national referee development pathway and has proven himself more recently in the National Premier League and FFA Cup. We see plenty of potential with Ben to become a leading referee in the coming years. We look forward to seeing Kate, Ben and all the match officials in action for the upcoming seasons of the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League,” concluded Nikou.
FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson congratulated Kate, Ben and all the match officials on their selection for the coming seasons. “We've undertaken a rigorous selection exercise during the last few months and Kate and Ben were the outstanding candidates to be added to the Hyundai A-League Referees Panel. I would like to congratulate them on their appointment. They have been selected on merit and I have no doubt that they will be successful at this level,” concluded Wilson.

FIFA U-17 World Cup 2019

With less than three months to go before the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 kicks off, the FIFA Referees Committee has appointed 20 trios of match officials, 5 support referees and 17 video assistant referees (VARs), representing all six confederations. This competition in Brazil will give ambitious FIFA referees the opportunity to showcase their quality while taking another big step in their careers. Referee preparation for the prestigious youth competition will be organized by the FIFA Refereeing Department and will focus on a wide range of topics, including officials’ reading of the game, football understanding, positioning to adjudge offside, teamwork, good decision-making, and the importance of taking up the best position or angle - i.e. being in the right place at the right time. All of these aspects reflect the philosophy of FIFA Refereeing and are key to referee preparation. As such, they are vital to the attainment of consistency and uniformity at elite level of refereeing. Following on from the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017, where Switzerland’s Esther Staubli officiated one game, FIFA has again selected female referees for a men’s tournament. Claudia Umpierrez and Luciana Mascarana from Uruguay will team up with Monica Amboya from Ecuador to form a trio during the tournament, while Edina Alves from Brazil has been appointed as a support referee. In addition, Bibiana Steinhaus (Germany) and Quetzalli Alvarado (Mexico) have been named among the VARs for this competition. The FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 will take place in Brasilia (Gama), Goiania and Vitoria (Cariacica) between 26 October and 17 November 2019. The final will be played at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia on 17 November. (Source: FIFA)

Irmatov stops refereeing to become vice-president of Uzbek FA

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Football Association of Uzbekistan that took place this summer, Ravshan Irmatov was elected vice-president of the UFA.
“I want to express my gratitude for the high confidence placed in me by the respected President Shavkat Miramanovich Mirziyoyev and all of you. In addition, I express my gratitude to all the leaders and specialists of our football, who in different years made their invaluable contribution to the development of our football. Honestly, for me to be on the football field seems more comfortable than staying here. But my conscience will not let me stay away knowing about the serious and responsible tasks facing our football, since I love my country and football. Of course, football is a team game. If we are all united, worthily and fairly will honour our veterans, experts, fans and all like-minded people will work together and serve one purpose, I am sure that we will overcome any difficulties. I would like to once again thank all of you”, said Ravshan Irmatov, the new vice-president of Uzbek FA. (Source: UFA)
