Enrique Osses’s passage through Costa Rican refereeing came to an end earlier than expected. The Chilean resigned from the presidency of the Referees Committee of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) after accepting an international offer and now the fate that caused his departure is known. According to El Deportivo de Chile, Osses will be the head of referees of the United Arab Emirates, through an agreement for the next two years.
This ends a stage that began on 26 February 2025, when FCRF bet on the former international referee to lead one of the most questioned areas of national football. His management ended after about 18 months. The Federation confirmed Osses’ resignation, though it initially failed to publicly disclose what his next destination would be. The movement represents a new international challenge for Osses, who in addition to his duties in Costa Rica has maintained a close relationship with FIFA. At 52, he is part of FIFA’s refereeing technical panel and was involved as an instructor in the preparation of the referees who participated in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Chilean had also recently defended the participation of Costa Rican representatives in the World Cup, including Juan Gabriel Calderón, despite the fact that he did not receive the opportunity to lead any matches as a referee. Osses described the Costa Rican participation as outstanding and especially highlighted the role that the representatives of Concacaf had during the tournament.
