The Referees Committee of the German Football Association (DFB) has elected Felix Brych as the "Referee of the Year" 2012/2013. Brych received the trophy in a ceremony at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich with views of the skyline. "The award is a nice recognition for the performance, but also motivation and incentive", said Brych, who just refereed the UEFA Champions League play-off match between NK Maribor and Viktoria Plzen. Since 1975, the DFB awards the "Referee of the Year", Felix Brych thus follows a number of well-known referees: Aron Schmidhuber, Hellmut Krug, Markus Merk and Herbert Fandel. Brych has refereed 18 games in the 2012/2013 Bundesliga. In the UEFA Champions League, he had four appearances, including the quarter-final between Real Madrid and Manchester United. Brych has been pre-selected by FIFA for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. At the Confederations Cup 2013 in Brazil, he was one of the four referees from Europe and recently whistled the match between England and Scotland, at Wembley Stadium, for the 150th anniversary of the English Football Association.
