Caceres appointed president of CONMEBOL Referees Committee

The president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, has decided to appoint Enrique Caceres as president of its Referees Committee. The 47-year-old Paraguayan takes over from Brazilian Wilson Seneme, who has stepped down as president of the Referees Committee, citing personal reasons. Caceres had been holding the position of VAR Technical Manager for the South American Football Confederation. He has extensive experience in international refereeing and has the skills and leadership essentials for a position of high responsibility.
The former Paraguayan referee took part in several editions of the CONMEBOL Libertadores (he refereed two finals, in 2016 and 2017), the CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the CONMEBOL Copa America and was one of the South American representatives at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he was in charge of two matches. He also refereed the 2018 CONMEBOL Recopa final and the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup. In addition, due to his previous position, he is very familiar with the use of technological tools in the field of refereeing, which constitutes an additional advantage. Caceres indicated that his main objective will be to develop and enhance South American refereeing, through constant virtual or in-person training. (Source: CONMEBOL)
A member of the FIFA Referees Committee, Seneme was appointed as head of Brazilian refereeing after six years as president of the CONMEBOL Referees Committee. Wilson Seneme began his refereeing career in 1998 and in 2000 joined the CBF. His debut in the Brasileirao was in 2001 and in 2006 joined the FIFA List. He refereed 31 international matches and 458 matches in Brazilian football, with 175 appearances in the First Division. After a very successful career, Wilson Seneme retired in 2014. Two years later, he was appointed as president of the CONMEBOL Referees Committee, a position he held until this year. Seneme took over as the head of Brazilian refereeing from the interim president Alicio Pena Jr. (Source: CBF)
